K-pop (Korean: 케이팝; RR: keipap), short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. The term "K-pop" became popular in the 2000s, especially in the international context. The Korean term for domestic pop music is gayo (Korean: 가요; Hanja: 歌謠), which is still widely used within South Korea. While "K-pop" can refer to all popular music or pop music from South Korea, it is colloquially often used in a narrower sense for any Korean music and artists associated with the entertainment and idol industry in the country, regardless of the genre.

BTS - Love Yourself: 結 Answer (2018)

Love Yourself: Answer (stylized as LOVE YOURSELF 結 'Answer') is the third Korean-language compilation album by South Korean boy band BTS. The album was released on August 24, 2018, by Big Hit Entertainment and is available in four different versions: S, E, L, and F. The album contains twenty-five tracks (twenty-six for digital version), including seven new songs, with the track "Idol" serving as the lead single. Most tracks are from Love Yourself: Her, and Love Yourself: Tear, including some remixes. The album debuted at number one in South Korea, Canada, Japan and the United States, becoming BTS' second chart-topping album in the US market.
On November 7, 2019, Love Yourself: Answer became the first Korean album to spend one year on the Billboard 200 chart. On November 9, it became the first Korean album to receive gold certification in the United States. It sold 60,000 copies in the United Kingdom, making BTS the first Asian artist to have a Silver-certified album in the country.
As of June 2021, the album has remained on the Billboard's main albums chart for 100 non-consecutive weeks, making it the first and currently only Korean album to do so.
‘IDOL’ is one song that brought together traditional Korea with modern Korea. This is fairly evident in the song and its music video.
RM talked about the meaning behind the song, he said, “You may not focus on the lyrics, but the lyrics are meaningful. This is what we want to say: You can call me artist. You can call me idol. No matter what you call me, I don’t care. It’s me”.
Not many people know this, but the song ‘MIC DROP’ was inspired by the former president of the USA, Barack Obama. Barack Obama had ‘dropped the mic’ after a speech of his, thus implying that he said what he said and was done with the conversation. BTS said that it was their way of saying expressing” swag, hopes, and confidence”.
The actual lyrics of ‘MIC DROP’ had an angry vibe to it. But J-Hope reworked the lyrics in a way that suited the band better.
