K-pop (Korean: 케이팝; RR: keipap), short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. The term "K-pop" became popular in the 2000s, especially in the international context. The Korean term for domestic pop music is gayo (Korean: 가요; Hanja: 歌謠), which is still widely used within South Korea. While "K-pop" can refer to all popular music or pop music from South Korea, it is colloquially often used in a narrower sense for any Korean music and artists associated with the entertainment and idol industry in the country, regardless of the genre.

The Best" is the first greatest hits album by Girls' Generation. It was released on July 23, 2014 in Japan. Aside from the previous hits, the album also contains four original tracks "Indestructible", "Divine", "Show Girls" and "Chain Reaction", and a Japanese version of "Mr. Mr." 
The album was released on July 23, 2014. It's their first hit albums, since the first one, "Best Selection Non Stop Mix", which is only remix. It features all their greatest hits in Japanese like Gee, Mr. Taxi or Paparazzi, also four new tracks ("Indestructible", "Divine", "Show Girls" and "Chain Reaction") and the Japanese version of Mr. Mr.

"Indestructible" was showcased for the first time as a lyric music video during Girls' Generation's last stop of their third Japan tour in Tokyo between July 11–13, 2014. The Music Video was revealed on YouTube  on August 1, 2014, the song talks about the "indestructible bond that can't be broke" about two person who are in love with each other, probably that the members feels the same way.

"Divine" has two versions for the accompanied music video. The first version, featured with a background story, was released on September 29, 2014. The second version, featured the appearances of Girls' Generation members, was released on October 14, 2014. This is also the last official single and music video featuring former member Jessica.

Others original tracks include : "Chain Reaction", an original song by Ke$ha sold to SM, and "Show Girls" (a Korean version was featured on Girls' Generation's 5th Korean Full Album Lion Heart on August 19, 2015).

A repackage named "The Best ~New Edition~" was out on October 10, 2014.

The album quickly managed to top Oricon Daily Album Chart, charting at #1 by selling 37,104 copies on its first day. It also charted at #1 on Weekly Chart, selling 74,921 copies. By doing so, SNSD has set a new record to become the first non-Japanese female group in Asia to ever have three Japanese albums (along with Girls' Generation and Love & Peace) scoring 1st place on the chart. Then charted at #4 on Monthly Chart. It sold a total of 175,000 copies in 2014 only.
